New Shoots: Life After Lockdown

The community at Theatre by the Lake have brought together their feelings, ideas and reflections on lockdown and the future in this physical and virtual exhibition.

In March 2020 we were all asked to stay at home and TBTL closed its doors. We had no idea how long we might be ‘locked down’ for, and last April we asked our community what lockdown meant to them and what were their hopes for the future. Over 150 people, from tiny tots to grans and granddads shared paintings, sculpture and poetry with us.

The project has allowed us to work with creative freelancers to design and install the exhibition in the gallery at the Theatre.

New Shoots will remain on display at the Theatre for visitors to see when we are open again. As it became clear we would be closed longer than anticipated, we’ve embraced the opportunity to imaginatively digitise the project for audiences to experience at home in this animation – introducing squirrel and duck.
